Driver denies hurting son

KOTA KINABALU: A driver claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for injuring his teenage son.

Chong Vui Bing, 39, who appeared before magistrate Afiq Agoes faces a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.

The accused was alleged to have caused hurt to his 13-year-old child at a house in Penampang at 9pm on July 28, 2017.

The court set February 25 to re-mention the case and the accused was released on RM1,500 bail with two local sureties.

Earlier, the accused’s wife told the court that she wished to withdraw her police report against her husband.

Prosecutin­g officer Inspector Lim Swee Beng applied for another hearing date pending instructio­n from the deputy public prosecutor’s office.

In another Magistrate’s Court here, a man pleaded not guilty to cheating a husband and wife over the purchase of a car.

Sang Fazar Bunjing Diamsom, 35, who appeared before magistrate Mohamad Aizat Abdul Rahim, was charged with deceiving the couple to buy his car in Penampang at 10.30pm on March 23, 2018.

The charge stated that the accused had allegedly induced the couple to hand over RM9,000 for the purchase of the car which still has bank instalment payment amounting to RM20,037.

The alleged offence was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and whipping and also liable to a fine, upon conviction.

The court fixed February 19 for case management and the accused was granted RM2,000 bail with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.
