Four-year-old girl dies after eating rambutans

KUCHING: A four-year-old girl from the Stutong area here died after having suffered difficulty in breathing.

According to witnesses, the girl was seen eating rambutans around 9pm on Sunday, but after that she appeared to be choking on something and later, she vomitted.

Not long after that, she fell into a semi-conscious state.

Family members then rushed the girl to a private hospital here, where the medical personnel did their best to resuscitat­e her – but to no avail.

It is learnt that the girl had a history of asthma.

The body was later brought to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) mortuary.

Separately, a 40-year-old man suffered slash wounds on both his hands and legs during an assault at his house in Kota Samarahan late Sunday.

According to witnesses, the man was resting in the living room while his mother was sleeping in her room, when a group of men armed with sharp objects entered the house and attacked him.

Upon hearing his scream, his mother went out to check.

Upon seeing her, the attackers ran out of the house and sped off in a car.

She immediatel­y attended to her injured son, before alerting the authoritie­s about the incident.

An ambulance, which was despatched to the house following the emergency call, brought the man to the SGH.

It is learnt that he is now placed at the hospital’s Yellow Zone, where patients with light to moderate injuries are treated.
