TNB seize top position in Malaysian Hockey League

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri P. Alagendra Cup champions, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) seized the top position from Maybank after winning in style 10-0 over Nurinsafi/Hoki Kedah in the second action of the 2019 Malaysian Hockey League Premier Division at the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium, Sunday.

The second consecutiv­e win recorded by Nur Saiful Zaini Nasiruddin’s players collected six points.

In the action, TNB comfortabl­y led 7-0 in the first half of the match courtesy of Firhan Ashaari in the 10th minute, Norshafiq Sumantri (15th), Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin Tengku Abd Jalil (18th), Shello Silverius (19th), Nik Muhammad Aiman Nik Rozemi (25th), Muhammad Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal (27th) and Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook (30th).

TNB added three more goals through Muhamad Ramadan Rosli in the 47th minute, Muhammad Noor Firdaus Rosdi (48th) and Mohamad Akhimullah in the 57th minute.

Champions of the Sumbangsih Cup, the Terengganu Hockey Club (THT), on its part, recorded its first win after beating TNB’s sibling, TNB Thunderbol­ts 4-0 at the Batu Buruk Hockey Stadium, Kuala Terengganu.

The four host team’s goals were netted by Faizal Saari in the 18th minute, Jang Jonghyun (24th), Mohd Fitri Saari (48th) and Muhammad Rashid Baharom at the end of the match.

The Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) team also recorded its first win this season after winning narrowly 2-1 over the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) team, at the Tun Razak Hockey Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.

UniKL opened the scoring via a field goal by national squad captain, Mohamad Sukri Abdul Mutalib in the 40th minute before the import player from the Netherland­s, Martijn Peter Havenga completed a penalty stroke in the 48th minute.

UiTM, however, managed to reap a consolatio­n goal via a field goal by Mohd Azwar Abd Rahman in the 59th minute.

The league’s action would be continued on Jan 18 with THT facing Nurinsafi/Hoki Kedah at the Batu Buruk Hockey Stadium, UniKL to square off against TNB at the Tengku Abdullah Hockey Stadium, Bangi while TNB Thunderbol­ts would face Maybank at the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium. - Bernama
