Justin hopes for smooth preparation for Junior Rhinos
KOTA KINABALU: Justin Ganai prays that preparation for the Sabah Under-21 squad will be smooth in the next one month or so.
The Junior Rhinos head coach said so because it was the only time afforded to him following his recent appointment to prepare the squad to face the President Cup 2019 challenge.
Nonetheless, Justin, arguably the most experienced coach in the state, said he would do his best on his return to coach the President Cup squad.
“The hope is of course to achieve the best result but it also depends on other factors including the capability of the team.
“We have only around one month to prepare. So, time is obviously not on our side.
“We just have to do to the best of our ability and that everthing will go according to plan as we look forward to the new season,” he said here yesterday.
Justin, who last coached the state under-21 side in 2017, was attached to the the Malaysia Sports School Sabah where he was in charge of the national girls Under-16 and 19 teams prior to agreeing to return to coach the President Cup squad.
Meanwhile, thirty-five junior footballers are currently training under Justin where only 30 will make the final squad to face the new season which is expected to start on February 21.
“I want the players to work hard and show that they are worth a place in the squad. We will only pick the best and who show good discipline and attitude,” he added.
Sabah, last year’s quarterfinalists, have been drawn in Group A of the President Cup where they will compete for the top four with Kedah, JDT III, UiTM FC, Selangor, Pahang, Perlis, Pulau Pinang, MISCMIFA, Selangor United and the Armed Forces FC.
The teams in Group B are Terengganu FC III, Felda United FC, PDRM, Perak, PKNP FC, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Sarawak, PKNS FC, Kelantan and Negeri Sembilan.
