Accused of sexual assault, Gavin Gao’s assets in China have all been frozen
BEIJING: Actor Gavin Gao, currently on trial in Sydney for alleged sexual assault, has had all of his assets in China frozen.
Beijing’s No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court has ruled that all assets from Beijing Yexuan Culture, a company under the control of Gao and his wife Michelle Dong Xuan, have been frozen.
Zhejiang Talent, the production and distribution company behind The Legend of Ba Qing, had filed for protective measures on the assets of Gao and Beijing Yexuan Culture, totalling 63.82 million yuan (RM38.68 million).
Zhejiang Talent’s had filed for the freeze because of Gao’s sexual assault case, which has impeded the promotions and broadcast of The Legend of Ba Qing. According to reports, Zhejiang Talent plans to claim compensation from the undersiege actor.
In addition, broadcasting plans for upcoming dramas starring Gavin such as Son of Hero, Tango and Anaya’s Love shelved.
If these dramas fail to obtain a broadcast date, it is likely that the producers shall be suing Gavin for compensation.
Earlier, lawyers representing Gavin had applied to crossexamine the complainant before the trial to ascertain if she had made up the allegations.
Gavin is accused of sexually assaulting the woman multiple times at the luxury Shangri-La hotel in Sydney last March.
Gavin was out that night with his co-accused, producer Wang Jing, and staff from the TV show they’d just finished filming in Sydney.
The woman claims Wang and Gavin assaulted her repeatedly in the hotel room after they all had left a karaoke bar about 2am.
Gavin’s barrister John Korn said in court that inconsistencies and contradictions in her four police statements meant she had to take the stand before the matter moved to trial. have been
