School development program must be pupil-oriented – KKCCCI president

-

KOTA KINABALU: Chinese kindergartens must invest to upgrade their hard and soft infrastructure, besides enhancing the professional level of the teachers.

Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) president Datuk Michael Lui said children deserve the best learning environment, facilities, teachers and education to be in tandem with the chamber’s ‘New Era, New Approach, New Journey’ development agenda.

He said this when gracing the Chinese New Year celebration at Chung Hwa Likas Kindergarten and Nursery here on Saturday.

Lui concurred with the Chung Hwa Likas Kindergarten and Nursery board of governors chairman, Chang Chin Shin, that the school’s development should be pupiloriented.

This includes upgrading of safety measures, fire prevention facility, safety precautions at the playground, disease prevention, and provision of nutritious meals for pupils at the kindergarten and nursery.

Under Chang’s leadership, Lui said the school is planning to build a two-in-one reading and recreation centre, refurbish its existing school hall and arrange for existing teachers to obtain qualification in early childhood education.

Chung Hwa Likas Kindergarten has over 700 pupils this year, an increase from 624 pupils last year.

Lui urged the school board, headmistress and teachers to work hard to attain the target of 800 pupils by 2020. He added that Chung Hwa Likas Kindergarten and Nursery was the first school under KKCCCI to establish a history corner.
