HONG KONG: Aaron Kwok is confident of being named the Best Actor during the Hong Kong Film Awards ceremony for his role as a currency forger.

For the Best Actor category, Aaron is up against Project Gutenberg star Chow Yun Fatt.

Said Aaron: “As an actor, I need to have such confidence.”

Project Gutenberg itself had chalked up a record 17 nominations.

Reckoned Aaron: “Project Gutenberg has done well at the box office through word-ofmouth. I have won film awards before, each award has different judging standards. The most important is for the actor to have contributed hard work. I am already very happy with the nomination, it is a honour for me from the voters.”

Aaron is also thankful to his wife for her support, so that he could focus on filming.

Project Gutenberg, the critically acclaimed crime thriller directed by Infernal Affairs scribe Felix Chong, is the second-mostnominated film in the history of the Hong Kong Film Awards.

It achieved a grand slam in the acting categories with five mentions as its stars Zhang Jingchu, Liu Kai Chi and Catherine Chau earned nominations in the best actress, best supporting actor and best supporting actress races, respectively.

Screenwriter Chong, who spent over a decade crafting this throwback to 1980s and 1990s Hong Kong action cinema, has been nominated for best director and best screenplay. The drama, which focuses on a band of master counterfeiters’ efforts to forge the 1996 US Dollar banknotes, is also in the running for best film, cinematography, film editing, art direction, costume and makeup design, action choreography, original film score, original film song, sound design, sound effects and visual effects.

The Hong Kong Film Awards have 19 categories overall.

The record-holder for most Hong Kong Film Award nominations ever is director Teddy Chan’s period drama Bodyguards and Assassins, which notched 18 in 2009 and went on to take home eight titles.

I have won film awards before, each award has different judging standards. The most important is for the actor to have contributed hard work. I am already very happy with the nomination, it is a honour for me from the voters. Aaron Kwok, actor
