Over 1,500 take part in PWD Sports Carnival
KOTA KINABALU: A total of 1,577 people from all over Malaysia took part in the Public Works Department (PWD) Sports Carnival that was held here, over the weekend.
The three-day national-level event featured 10 sporting disciplines and was officiated by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung who represented Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Shafie Apdal.
Shafie said the event was not merely for seeking victory and championship, but also a platform to foster team spirit among participants.
His speech was read by Poon during the launching ceremony at the Likas Stadium on Friday night.
“In addition, I believe this championship will help strengthen the friendship between all in the staff of the PWD and Works Ministry.
“Two important elements, teamwork and good relations, are the best strategies that can be translated into the daily tasks entrusted to us as civil servants.
“Working solo may be irrelevant today and PWD as the country's largest technical agency would do well to focus more on teamwork so that all planned missions and visions can be achieved,” he said.
Shafie hoped that the carnival would help all within the Ministry to continue to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle, thus contributing to the country's productivity.
Also present at the ceremony was Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony, his Assistant Minister Datuk Muis Picho, Permanent Secretary Dr Ismail Charles, PWD Director-General Datuk Sri Dr Roslan Md Taha and Sabah PWD Director Richard Jomiji.
