Suspected drug dealers detained

LAHAD DATU: Police nabbed a couple beleived to be drug dealers after detaining an unemployed man at the plantation areas in Kampung Silam on Saturday.

District police chief ACP Nasri Mansor in a statement yesterday said the first suspect, a 50-yearold Filipino was arrested about 7.30pm.

Nasri said the suspect was arrested after struggling with the police. He suffered bruise on his cheek. Found on him was a small container containing four plastic packets of substance believed to be syabu weighing 5.60 grams and foils.

He said the suspect had also admitted of taking drugs and taken to the Lahad Datu Police Headquarte­rs (IPD) where he tested positive for syabu and will be investigat­ed under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act (DDA) 1952.

“Following the arrest, the Narcotic Crime Investigat­ion Department detected the dealer of the drugs owned by the suspect. The man was known as Sadong.

“Acting on the informatio­n, the team raided an unnumbered house at Kampung Silam and nabbed Sadong and his wife who were inside one of the rooms during the raid,” he said.

According to Nasri, both suspects attempted to escape from the room but were arrested.

He said the woman who was holding a purse tried to hide it from the police. She later handed it to the police who found 13 translucen­t plastics containing substance believed to be syabu weighing 32.52 grams, foils, a modified straw and a photo.

Both suspects were taken to the IPD and urine tests showed they had consumed drugs.

Nasri added that the 42-yearold man and his 38-year-old wife both without identifica­tion document, will be investigat­ed under Section 39A(2) of the DDA 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of DDA 1952.
