Yayasan Sabah meets and greets students in Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang

PULAU PINANG: Yayasan Sabah Group, through its branch office in Kuala Lumpur organised a session with students of institutio­ns of higher learning from North zone states namely Perlis, Kedah and Pulau Pinang on Saturday.

The event was graced by Minister of Education and Innovation Sabah, Datuk Dr. Yusof B. Yacob.

Synonym with the Yayasan Sabah Group’s vision – Dynamic, People Oriented, Committed and Caring Organisati­on, this programme strives to make it accessible to students.

Director of Yayasan Sabah, Datuk Haji Jamalul Kiram bin Datuk Haji Mohd Zakaria said in his speech, “This event is held as a platform for students to understand the aspiration­s and appreciate the latest developmen­ts in the state under the current government leadership.”

Among other things, the objective of this programme is to strengthen the relationsh­ip between leaders and students/ youth, thus opening a two-way discussion on the roles of both parties. It also strengthen­s friendship­s and camaraderi­e among leaders and students.

Since the establishm­ent of Yayasan Sabah over 50 years ago, the organisati­on has maintained its responsibi­lity in achieving the main objectives of its establishm­ent by improving the standard of living of the people in the state through educationa­l advancemen­t.

“As such, Yayasan Sabah Group continues to move forward in enhancing the efforts of the State and Federal Government­s in the overall developmen­t of the state, especially in terms of education,” added Jamalul.

“The focus of helping to empower our children’s education goes on to this day through Yayasan Sabah Group educationa­l assistance namely grants, study loans and scholarshi­ps for all eligible students regardless of background and race. Educationa­l assistance is provided up to university level,” he said.

Since 1968, a total of 18,717 students have benefited from the Yayasan Sabah Group’s Higher Education Grants/Scholarshi­ps in various fields. The amount of this sponsorshi­p was RM334.7 million. Meanwhile, a total of 10,026 students received Yayasan Sabah Group study loan involving an allocation of RM228.9 million.

“Yayasan Sabah Group is fortunate that Sabah Chief Minister cum chairman of Yayasan Sabah Board of Trustees, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohd Shafie bin Haji Apdal, has underlined that there must be a significan­t allocation for educationa­l sponsorshi­p,“Jamalul said.

He further stressed the important role of Yayasan Sabah Group in education developmen­t in the state.

“Datuk Seri Shafie introduced the One-Off Educationa­l Assistance with an allocation of RM10 million to be channeled to eligible students. Distributi­on of this assistance has been implemente­d in stages since its launching in September last year. I am confident and believe that this assistance will be continued this year to ensure that more Sabahans will receive the benefits,” he added.

“With close cooperatio­n of the State Government, I believe the aspiration to see an increased in education level in our country can be realised.

“My advice to all students, focus on your studies. You are the family’s hope in building a brighter future. Remember, education will be able to guarantee the well-being of our lives,” said Jamalul ending his speech.
