Three investigation papers opened over insult on Islam

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have opened three investigation papers in connection with three cases involving insult on Islam, the Prophet and his wife, Saidatina Aishah.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, in a statement, said the cases were being investigated under the Penal Code and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“An investigation paper is opened against Facebook account user, Foo Sing Wai, for uploading words and infographics insulting Prophet Muhammad SAW and his wife, Saidatina Aishah,” he said adding that 478 police reports were lodged against Foo.

He said the suspect, aged 68, was arrested last Feb 19 and was held in remand until Feb 22.

According to Mohamad Fuzi, the suspect was released on police bail last Friday because of his age and health condition.

He said the police also received 11 reports against another Facebook user, Sarkar Tanesan, for his insulting postings on the Prophet and Muslims.

The 21-year-old suspect was arrested last Thursday and is in remand until today, he added.

Mohamad Fuzi said there were 16 police reports lodged against Facebook account user Sally Yen over her insulting remarks against the Prophet and Islam in 2013.

The case was classified as NFA (no further action) by the prosecution as the account holder could not be ascertained by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), he added.

However, he said the case was reopened, following two new reports lodged over the posting which goes viral again.

Efforts are being made to identify the Facebook account holder and also quarters that viralled the posting again, he added.

He advised the public against making, disseminating and sharing of statements or postings that could undermine public order as well as unity of the multi-religious and racial community in the country. - Bernama
