SIBU: A collision involving a luxury car and a palm oil tanker at Mile 8 Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman here yesterday morning caused the entire load of the tanker to spill onto the road.

The incident happened around 9am when both vehicles were travelling in the same direction towards Bintulu, with the car crashing into the rear of the oil tanker.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel from the Sungai Merah and Central Road fire stations were deployed to the scene to address the spillage, with sand and soil scatted over the affected area before being washed away.

No other mishaps occurred during the cleaning-up period as motorists were given early warning to reduce speed by traffic police personnel.

The clean-up operation ended around noon.

It was learnt that the tanker driver suffered a minor facial injury and was sent by a passing motorist to Sibu Hospital for outpatient treatment.

The driver of the luxury car, meanwhile, was nowhere to be seen at the scene, although it is believed he/she did not sustain any injuries.

The tanker driver, meanwhile, told The Borneo Post that he and a group of more than 10 tanker drivers arrived here on Saturday to collect the palm oil from a manufacturing plant.
