Man arrested for allegedly making fake ICs
TAWAU: A 43-year-old man was detained on suspicion of making matrix cards which would purportedly make foreigners who hold the cards in Sabah untouchable by law.
District police chief ACP Fadil Hj Marsus yesterday said a team of police acting on information arrested the suspect at a house in Kampung Sentosa, North Road about 11pm on Tuesday.
He said it was found that the suspect had made the cards known as Union Malaya Borneo Corporation (UMBCO) for foreigners and individuals who have no identification document or passport.
“It was claimed that the cards have the same functions as identity card and passport, and the holders would not be arrested by the police, the National Registration Department and the Immigration Department although they have no valid documents,” Fadil said in a statement here yesterday.
He said each applicant had to pay RM50 for the card which would be processed in three working days.
“The applicants only needed to provide their names and any kind of document to the suspect for processing the card at stationery shops in Tawau,” he said.
Fadil said the suspect carried out the activity alone and did not have a company registered under the Companies Commission of Malaysia or local authority.
He said police seized a Samsung cellphone, three UMBCO files, 16 empty UMBCO files, RM606 cash, a Maha Guru (PGSSBBP) stamp, a Ayahanda Mahaguru Lee Tunggal stamp, a Sazali Aram bin Mohd Hamdi Gelanggang Silat Baginda stamp and five incomplete UMBCO member cards. The suspect is being remanded for investigation under Section 420/511 of the Penal Code for cheating attempt.
