50kg of bombed fish seized from ferry in Kudat
KOTA KINABALU: Close to 50 kilograms of bombed fish worth about RM900 were seized by the Marine Operations Force (MOF) from a passenger ferry at the Kudat ferry terminal on Tuesday.
Marine Operations Force commander ACP Hj Mohamad Pajeri Bin Ali said the MOF personnel and officers from the Kudat Fishery Department found the fish while conducting an operation around 3.30pm on Feb 26.
“Investigation found about 50 kg of assorted fish inside a red barrel, which were caught with explosives,” he said.
Mohamad Pajeri added the ferry was from Karakit, Pulau Banggi and none of the ferry crewmen and passengers had claimed ownership of the fish.
“The fish were seized and taken to the marine headquarters in Kudat for further investigation under Section 26(1)(c) of the Fishery Act 1985.
Mohamad Pajeri also disclosed the marine police on Tuesday detained a 41-year-old boatman for possessing an expired passport off Pulau Nunuyan waters in Sandakan.
He said the Indonesian was arrested about 3.30pm during Ops Pensura.
Mohamad Pajeri said while patrolling at the area, the marine police team inspected a fishing boat and found the boatman's passport had expired.
"The team later apprehended the boat, together with its engine and fishing net all together worth RM11,980.
"The suspect and the seizures were later taken to the Sandakan marine police base for further action," he said.
Mohamad Pajeri added that the case was being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/1963.
