Rock legend Ramli Sarip performs at KK Concert

KOTA KINABALU: Around 700 people were treated to a rare performance by rock legend Datuk Ramli Sarip at the Allianz Rocks in KK Concert at Oceanus Mall here on Tuesday night.

The 66-year-old rocker belted out some of his greatest hits such as ‘Sejuta Wajah’, ‘Jikalau Berkasih’ and ‘Kamelia’ for the young and old fans.

The Allianz Rocks in KK Concert also featured cover versions of popular songs such as Bonnie Tyler’s ‘If I Sing You A Love Song’ and Eric Clapton’s ‘Wonderful Tonight’.

Ramli Sarip, a former frontman of Sweet Charity, was joined on stage by Ruhh, a classic rock band who had earlier opened the show with their own versions of rock songs such as ‘Guns n Roses’ ‘November Rain’, Deep Purple’s ‘Highway Star’, Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick On The Wall’ and Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

Allianz Malaysia Berhad chief executive officer Zakri Khir said he was thrilled to bring the concert over to Kota Kinabalu following the filled-out 1,800 capacity at Allianz Rocks Concert last November.

“Being in Peninsular Malaysia, very often we are guilty of forgetting our fellow Malaysians in East Malaysia. The first Allianz Rocks was truly a wonderful experience that we got to share with our customers and partners.

“That is why, we are here tonight, to bring this concert to you and to show the people of Sabah a good time,” said Zakri.

“After witnessing it again last night, I am sure many will agree that Datuk Ramli’s showmanship is second to none and Ruhh proved they could hang in there with one of the greatest rockers of all time.

“Thank you Kota Kinabalu for coming out and rocking with us,” said Zakri, who had at one point joined Ramli Sarip on stage.

Fans were also able to participate in an on-ground social media contest for a chance to win Allianz Rocks KK Concert T-shirts, concert posters and exclusive Allianz-branded merchandises.
