Papar chamber president says not seeking re-election

KOTA KINABALU: Incumbent Papar Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) president Datuk Liew Siew Kian will not be seeking another term in the upcoming annual general meeting (AGM) cum election on March 15.

Liew, who has presided over the chamber for 11 years, said he was ready to pass the baton to his successor.

“Seventy per cent of the current PCCC executive committee members are young and experience­d individual­s.

“I believe the young leadership can take the chamber to greater heights.”

Liew added that he would continue to give his strong support to the new leadership and activities organized by the chamber in the future.

Meanwhile, he also thanked the Chinese associatio­ns, schools, temples and churches as well as his committee members for supporting PCCC’s effort to serve the local community.

When asked, Liew said he already has a candidate to succeed him.

Liew admitted that he had actually considered not seeking for another term in the last election but the committee then persuaded him to stay on.

“I believe the successor is now ready to take on the responsibi­lity.”

Nonetheles­s, he said the president’s post is open for contest under the democratic system.

A total of 25 committee members will be selected in the election on March 15, while the second round of election will take place within seven days to determine the line-up.
