Nightclub singer jailed, fined for causing hurt to ex-wife

KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate's Court here sentenced a nightclub singer to two weeks' jail and RM1,500 fine, in default, two weeks' imprisonme­nt for causing hurt to his former wife.

In passing the sentence on Stuyvesany Fredie, 36, Magistrate Mohamad Aizat Abdul Rahim said the accused should control his emotions and such physical violence should not have happened.

The magistrate also said he had taken into considerat­ion that the accused had made an undertakin­g not to repeat a similar offence again, but laws must be executed.

Stuyvesany, who is a father of one, had pleaded guilty to beating his former wife aged 31 at a house at Taman Seri Keramat in Putatan on October 3, 2018.

The accused was convicted under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

Prosecutin­g officer Inspector Albert Basiri told the court that the accused had hit the victim's arms, left elbow and chest with a baby chair, and also kicked her left thigh and spat on her face.

On October 3, 2018, a team of police from the Intelligen­ce and Operation Unit arrested the accused at the car park of a premises at Jalan Tuaran, following a report made by the victim.

In mitigation, the unrepresen­ted accused said his child is still schooling and requested for a fine as punishment.

The accused said he had hit the victim after she got mad over his affair with another woman.
