So far, three suspects (two male and one female) are in police custody. The first male suspect was arrested on Feb 23 while two other suspects were picked from different locations here the next day.

“We are still identifying other suspects,” said head of Sarawak Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (CCID) Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah yesterday.

He also said the remand order on the first suspect would be renewed today to assist in the investigations, as provided for under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

He added they had so far received 23 police reports over the incident from the scam victims who were detained for more than two months at a Cambodian prison.

The victims had applied to work in Cambodia through various social media networks between October and November last year, and even placed deposit into a bank account, but were not aware of the potential scam.

All the 43 Malaysians were released after successfull negotiations between Wisma Putra and the Cambodian government, and have since returned home to their respective states on Feb 17.
