Malaysia’s aviation industry expanding

-

SUBANG: The country’s aviation industry is expanding and has good potential, mainly due to Malaysia’s strategic location in the Asia-Pacific region.

Universiti Kuala Lumpur’s Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) professor, Datuk Ahmad Zahir Mokhtar says Malaysia has an excellent supply of human resources as the country produces many experts in the field.

“Fifty per cent of the order for new aircraft come from Asia-Pacific. But aircraft manufacturers do not have the supply chain in this region. This is why many states want to have an aerospace park. It’s viable.

“Some companies would want to locate their factories from America to Asia-Pacific as their customers are in this region and therefore, our (Malaysia) position is definitely good,” he told Bernama after attending ‘The New Trend in Aviation Technology’ colloquium organised by UniKL MIAT, here, yesterday.

Asked on students’ interest in the aviation industry, Ahmad Zahir said for UniKL MIAT alone, the student intake had been extremely positive which resulted in the establishment of a new campus (for aviation) in Subang after its first campus in Sepang.

On the job opportunity aspect, he said those involved in the industry had the potential to work in other countries such as Singapore and the Philippines as they had the same standards, and the Malaysian qualifications were recognised by the European Union. — Bernama
