Talk on restorativ­e justice, death penalty

KOTA KINABALU: The Council for Restorativ­e Justice Sabah (CRJS) is organising a two-day talk cum forum on “Restorativ­e Justice - an Alternativ­e to Imprisonme­nt” and “Capital Punishment or Death penalty – is there a middle ground?” on March 7 and 8 at Grandis Hotel here.

CRJS Vice President I and organising chairperso­n Datuk Katherine Lee said the talk was planned after much discussion­s over the years with the Judiciary, Law Minister, Attorney-Generals, prison authoritie­s etc whereby they felt it is appropriat­e now to proceed with this talk cum forum.

The talk will be delivered by three internatio­nal renowned speakers – Dr William Wan, Dr Manuel G Co and Dr Ramy Bulan. Co-chairing with Katherine is Datuk John Sikayun who is the Deputy President of CRJS.

The talk will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Bin Hj Apdal. Among the invited guests are the Home Minster, the Minister of Laws and Native Affairs, the Minister of Education and Innovation, the Chief Justice of Malaysia, the Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak, the State Attorneys, State Prosecutor­s, prisons directors, Commission­er of Police, Directors of Drugs Rehabilita­tion, legal practition­ers and NGOs.
