Ministries discuss making Sabah a green food hub
KOTA KINABALU: Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Junz Wong said more meetings between his ministry and Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry (MOA) should be held to have better understanding of Sabah actual situations and needs.
“At least we should have such a meeting once every year,” Junz reiterated in a statement here yesterday.
He said this after receiving a courtesy call from MOA Secretary General Datuk Mohd Sallehuddin Hassan and his top officers to Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) on Friday.
Junz said this was the first official visit to MAFI after so many years by MOA officials, which turned out to be very fruitful covering several vital and urgent subjects.
“There are many pertaining issues and policy matters have been discussed openly in the meeting,” Junz said.
“Among the main topics discussed was how to develop Sabah as the next healthy green sustainable food hub of the region and becoming the net exporter for Malaysia,” he continued.
Junz said the meeting was a great one where officers at both federal and state level have good openminded discussions.
“All officers have had an in-depth understanding of each other’s roles and responsibilities. Therefore, forming a better coordination and cooperation when it comes to implementing policies and runing programmes benefiting the farmers and fishermen directly or indirectly,” he explained.
The Minister thanked Mohd Sallehhuddin for taking the initiative to come to MAFI with his officers and looking forward to more such meetings in the future.
