Curtin Malaysia bigwigs attend Australia Day event in Kuala Lumpur
MIRI: The senior executives of Curtin University Malaysia were among the guests of a reception hosted by the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, Andrew Goledzinowski, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre recently.
The event was to mark Australia Day 2019.
The Curtin Malaysia delegation, which was led by the Malaysian campus pro vice-chancellor, president and chief executive officer Prof Jim Mienczakowski, also comprised Mienczakowski’s wife Lindsay, deputy pro vice-chancellor Prof Beena Giridharan and her husband Giridharan Anandnan, and chief operating officer Pieter Willem Pottas with his wife Lyn Allan.
Works Minister Baru Bian was the guest-of-honour at the grand gathering, which was attended by over 1,000 guests representing the government, the business community and civil societies.
“It was nice being able to join so many others in celebrating Australia’s renowned education, tourism and innovation credentials, as well as the deep friendship between Australia and Malaysia,” said Mienczakowski in a statement issued Friday.
He also praised the Australian High Commissioner’s strong commitment in supporting the Australian branch campuses in Malaysia, as well as the much celebrated Australia-Malaysia education ties that had brought considerable benefits to students from Malaysia and across the world.
He added that Goledzinowski made it a point to visit Curtin Malaysia recently to get a firsthand look at the developments in the campus.
“He is expected to visit the campus again this April for Curtin Malaysia’s annual graduation ceremony and 20th anniversary celebration,” said Mienczakowski.
The campus in Miri is Curtin University’s largest international campus and global hub in Asia, delivering world-class Australian education to over 4,000 students from over 50 different countries. Established in 1999 in a joint-venture between Curtin University and the Sarawak government, the campus here is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
