KOTA KINABALU: A motorcyclist was killed in an accident involving two other motorcycles at Jalan Sulaman near the University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) traffic lights.

District police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said the deceased was identified as Mohd Diman Fadillah Kamis, 31, from Papar.

Mohd Diman died at the scene of the accident which occurred about 12:50am on Sunday, Habibi said the motorcyclist’s remains had been sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 for a postmortem.

“Based on eyewitness’ statement, the accident occurred when Mohd Diman was testing the speed of the motorcycle he was riding from the UMS traffic lights to the Indah Permai traffic lights.

“He was riding back to the UMS traffic lights when two other motorcycles crashed into him,” Habibi said adding that the two motorcyclists then fled the scene and had yet to report the accident to the police.

The case, he said, is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Habibi urged eyewitnesses of the accident to contact the nearest police station or investigating officer Inspector Ngang Ak Kalimpot at 0178083272 to assist in investigations.

“I would also like to advise roadusers to be cautious when travelling on roads that have been identified as accident prone. Studies have shown that speeding and flouting traffic law are among the contributing factors to road accidents,” he said.
