State Govt focused on expediting MA63 issue – CM

KOTA KINABALU: The State Government is focused on expediting the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) matter with the federal government, assured Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Shafie said a meeting on the matter will be held for the second time this year soon and he is confident the technical committee and other various committees will give an in depth look on the matter of its implementa­tion.

“I think this is a journey that I am confident will more or less take time but I hope that we can realize it because it is one of the initiative­s in the formation of a country because we understand and know the sentiment and taste of people’s component not only in the Peninsular but also in Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.

“I am confident in the steps taken by YAB (Prime Minister) Tun Dr Mahathir (Mohamad), towards making it a reality,” he added after launching the Parliament Members and Sabah State Legislativ­e Assembly Members Special Executive Program here yesterday. However, Shafie refused to reveal details of the discussion­s as decisions on the matters have not been finalized.

“I don’t want to spell it out. It’s not the right platform. What’s important to us, we do the negotiatio­ns. What’s important is to speed it up because we want to realize, succeed the agenda,” he stressed.
