RM100 mln for Sabah health projects
KOTA KINABALU: The Health Ministry has allocated RM2 billion for operational expenses and RM100 million for ongoing projects in Sabah, said its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Dr Chen Chaw Min.
“There are many projects at the planning and development levels under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP). The new block at Tawau Hospital is expected to complete next year, and hopefully (the expansion of) Papar Hospital as well,” he told the media after a courtesy call on Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal here yesterday.
Also present were Sabah Minister of Health and People’s Wellbeing, Datuk Stephen Wong, his assistant minister, Norazlinah binti Arif, and political secretary cum Luyang assemblyman Phoong Jin Zhe.
Additionally, Dr Chen said the Health Ministry had approved the construction of a health clinic on Sebatik Island.
“We are in the process of clearing the land. The project will be open for tender, hopefully in June or July, after the development approval is obtained,” he disclosed.
On the courtesy call, Dr Chen said he had discussed with Shafie and Wong about ongoing projects in Sabah and issues to be addressed.
“I am satisfied with the courtesy visit because the Chief Minister is very concerned about the wellbeing of the people of Sabah and has shared with me the challenges in the State which I will take note and improve on,” he said.
