Committee to streamline export promotion activities — Matrade
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) has established an export promotion programmes coordination committee, JK-Eksport, to streamline all export promotion activities for the country by government ministries and agencies.
The committee, which held its first meeting yesterday, would be in charge of reviewing and approving all export promotion programme proposals from ministries and agencies.
MATRADE said approvals would depend on the products or service’s relevance to target markets, domestic capabilities and budget optimisation for better returns on investment.
“The JK-Eksport will be a platform for data gathering and information sharing, particularly on market intelligence.
“This will help generate ideas and foster greater synergy among ministries and agencies,” it said in a statement yesterday.
JK-Eksport will create better synergy among the relevant government ministries and agencies, an embodiment of the government’s efforts to optimise the impact of export promotion initiatives for the country.
“The establishment of JKEksport was prompted by the need to have a more streamlined and coordinated effort at export promotion.
“This is pivotal to ensuring the optimal use of resources, including budget and assistance by government overseas offices,” it said.
Meanwhile, MATRADE executive officer Datuk Wan Latiff Wan Musa said although MATRADE was the national trade promotion organisation, there were other ministries and agencies either actively promoting Malaysian products or services abroad, or had the capacity and resources to support the effort.
