Pesta Tiong Hua UMS is back

KOTA KINABALU: The Secretaria­t Art and Chinese Culture of Tiong Hua University Malaysia Sabah with the coorganize­rs Malaysia Hong Teck Associatio­n and Sabah San Sheng Gung (Hong Teck) Lion Dance Sport Associatio­n will be organising the University Malaysia Sabah First Lion Dance Championsh­ip on March 29 at Kompleks Dewan Kuliah Pusat Baharu Ke-2 (DKP Baru).

This is the first lion dance championsh­ip which is organised by the students and lion dance associatio­n.

Lion dance is a traditiona­l folk event and it has a profound cultural meaning.

It will held from 9am to 6pm and entry is free.

The champion will stand a chance to perform during the Grand Night.

Meanw hi le,xhib it ions on the different Chinese festivals namely Chinese New Year, Mooncake Festival, Winter Solstice will be exhibited on that day.

The Grand Night of Eighth Pesta Tiong Hua will be held on March 30 at Kompleks Dewan Kuliah Pusat Baharu Ke-2 (DKP Baru), UMS, with the theme “Arise”.

“Arise” is the moment of sunrise, which means hopes and forces that motivate people to move forward in our lives. It also indicates the passion and perseveran­ce of the descendant­s in contributi­ng to the broad and profound of Chinese Culture. The aim of this event is to promote the beauty and vibrant of Chinese cultures and traditions to the diverse community which consists of different races, background­s, and cultures.
