KOTA KINABALU: Continuous working relationship with other government departments is important to keep up security and well-being of city folk, said city police chief ACP Habibi Majinji.

New and ongoing plans were put in place by the Kota Kinabalu Police Contingent (IPD KK) to continue to provide security, safety and well-being of the community in Kota Kinabalu, he said after a courtesy call on Mayor Datuk Haji Nordin Siman yesterday, Habibi said .

“We touched on a number of issues during the meeting, including illegal squatters, abandoned houses occupied by illegal immigrants, social problems, drug issues and criminal activities at hotspot villages.

“I have also explained to the mayor about the Kampung Angkat program, that was recently launched by IPD KK, as part of our efforts to curb criminal activities from happening,” he said.

Habibi added that cooperation shown by Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and other government agencies and departments had seen drastic improvement in the number of integrated operations and detention of illegal immigrants, offenders and criminals.

“Through such cooperation, we were able to identify illegal squatters as well as abandoned houses being occupied by illegal immigrants.

“The number of arrests made on drug offenders and criminals have also increased while unhealthy and criminal activities have decreased in recent times.

“This is all due to the on-going working relationship we have with DBKK and other agencies and I hope such cooperation will continue in the future,” said Habibi.
