Confusion between ‘6’ and ‘9’ has not affected outcome of FA Cup draw —MFL

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A confusion between the numbers six and nine in the 2019 FA Cup second round draw has not affected the outcome of the draw held yesterday.

Malaysia Football League (MFL) chief executive officer Kevin Ramalingam said the three panelists from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM) and the Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia (PFAM) accepted the result, and there is no need of a re-draw.

The decision came as a relief to Super League sides Kedah and Selangor who will avoid playing each other in the round.

The mistake sees the two teams taking on Premier League sides instead.

Kedah should have filled the number nine position to take on Selangor in 10, however, the mistake of reading it as ‘six’, paired them with Selangor United instead.

Meanwhile, Kelantan which should have been drawn as ‘six’ will see themselves facing five-time champions Selangor.

“I wanted to make sure that all the representatives of the respective teams present did not have any issue with the draw conducted by independent parties.

“I have received confirmation from all the teams (over the acceptance of the draw) and I hope it does not raise doubts among supporters,” he explained. - Bernama
