East versus West in MSSS Basketball U-12 competitio­n

KOTA KINABALU: It will be a battle between East and West as the Sabah Schools Sports Council (MSSS) Basketball Under12 Tournament concludes with the final at SMJK Shan Tao, today.

Sandakan are the only team to have gone through after victories over Tuaran (58-36) and Tawau (69-38) in the Boys’ Group Y fixtures, yesterday.

They face either Kota Kinabalu or Penampang as the two West Coast teams clash in the Group X match at 9am to determine which side goes through to the final at 1pm.

Kota Kinabalu beat Lahad Datu 79-19 yesterday to maintain their record of high-scoring wins.

They are favourites to go through but must first beat Penampang, who also had their share of big wins in the match against Lahad Datu (54-12).

Meanwhile, the EastWest showdown will also be seen in the Girls’ category as Tawau face Lahad Datu in the Gourp X decider, with Penampang taking on Kota Kinabalu in the Group Y match.

The winners will faceoff in the final scheduled at 12pm.

Lahad Datu beat Keningau 28-4 as Tawau beat the same opponent 48-7, while Penampang beat Tenom 46-6 and Kota Kinabalu thrashed Tenom 96-12 in the Group Y fixtures.

Sabah Education Department’s developmen­t and humanitari­an sector chief Datu Jamigul Datu Salin is expected to officiate at the prize presentati­on and closing ceremony.
