KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s low-cost carrier AirAsia has inked an agreement to be the exclusive official airline for the Malaysian Football League 2019-2020.

AirAsia in a statement noted that the airline would be supporting MFL teams playing in the Malaysia Cup, Super League, Premier League and FA Cup tournaments with discounted fares for them to fly with the airline to games across Malaysia and the region.

AirAsia will also have the rights to sell match tickets either as standalone or packaged with flights and/or hotel deals through airasiaredtix.com.

“Football is one of my passions, and this love for the beautiful game runs through AirAsia as well. We currently sponsor the AirAsia KL Junior League to advance youth football in the Klang Valley. We have our own youth team, PJ Rangers FC.

“Most recently, we also chartered flights for Harimau Malaya fans to catch the AFF Suzuki Cup semi-finals and finals in Bangkok and Hanoi,” said its group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, as quoted in the statement yesterday.

He noted that the deal with Malaysian Football League (MFL) was an incredible opportunity for AirAsia to continue supporting Malaysian football.

“...and we are proud to be able to play a part in inspiring a new generation of dreamers and making dreams come true for the players, the teams, and ultimately, the fans. We look forward to welcoming our heroes and their fans on board,” he added.

Meanwhile MFL chief executive officer, Kevin Ramalingam hoped that with the partnership with AirAsia, the local football scene will grow to greater heights.

“We hope that, with this partnership with the world’s best, the local football scene will grow to even greater heights as we strive towards putting Malaysia on the footballing map again,” he said.
