Penampang banking on home support against Tambunan

KOTA KINABALU: Penampang are banking on home support to extend their advantage from an earlier win when they host Tambunan in the KDM Malaysia Football League FA Cup returnleg match at the Penampang Stadium, tomorrow.

Team manager Justin Juani and his deputy Sonnie Hamdin said in a joint statement that the earlier 2-1 away win should give their side an advantage to continue their quest in the competition.

Penampang got the advantage at the Tambunan Stadium thanks to goals from Ponzo Nikola and Mohd Amin in the 30th and 40th minutes.

“The win helped to boost the players’ spirits and they are eager to get another win especially at home.

“We would like to invite all football fans especially in Penampang to come and support the team this Saturday,” Justin said.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 3.45pm.

According to Justin, the team’s preparation had gone smoothly and that all the players were fit and ready for the match.

“The advantage is obviously with us but whether or not we go through depends on this match. We will do our best to emerge as the one that makes it to the next stage,” he said.

The FA Cup is among several competitions being contested in the second edition of the KDM Malaysia Football League. The others include the President’s Cup Carnival, Charity Cup and the league tournament.

All 32 district teams competing in the FA Cup competition are also involved in the league, which is the main tournament.

More than RM300,000 worth of cash prizes are up for grabs in this second edition of the KDM Malaysia Football League, which is organised by the Malaysia Kadazan Dusun Murut Organisation with the cooperation of the Youth and Sports Ministry.
