30 Sabah students in MSSM cross country challenge

-

KOTA KINABALU: Thirty athletes will carry Sabah’s challenge in the Malaysia School Sports Council (MSSM) CrossCountry championship in Perlis on March 9.

The Sabah School Sports Council (MSSS) will be competing in all three age groups of the Boys’ and Girls’ under-12, under-15 and under-18.

Sabah have entered five boys and five girls for each of the agegroup and they are determined to bring glory to the state in the national level competition.

The squad too received a timely boost ahead of the championship in the form of sponsorship from local-based Berwang Sports Club.

President of Berwang, David Ng, said he was happy to be given the chance to sponsor the 30 athletes from Sabah.

“Tickets are provided from Kota Kinabalu to Penang and they will travel to Perlis by road,” he said via Whatsapp here yesterday.

In fact, Berwang Sports Club last month also assisted through sponsorship in the selection process to identify the best athletes to represent MSSS in the MSSM cross-country event.

“We all hope they would compete harder to try and bring glory to the state...all the best to the Sabah contingent,” added Ng, who is also the Kapitan of Moyog.

Towards this end, Kota Kinabalu District Education officer Umin Haji Sadi thanked Berwang Sports Club and Ng in particular for the strong support given that enabled the athletes to compete in Perlis.

Meanwhile, a flag off ceremony was held in Likas near here on Wednesday night where and among those in attendance were Head of UPK Unit (Kota Kinabalu District Education Office) Mohd Adli Haji Mahali, Sabah Education Department Sports Coordinator Pg. Hj. Johari Pg. Hj. Ahmad, coaches and athletes.

The state cross-country contingent left for Perlis yesterday.
