Hajiji not confirmed heading Bersatu Sabah

-

KOTA KINABALU: Who will head Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chapter in Sabah remains unanswered.

Brushing aside talks that former Sabah Umno liaison chief Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji will be appointed to the post is Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah president Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin.

“These are just rumours because Bersatu leadership has yet to make a decision on the matter. This will only be confirmed with an official announcement by Bersatu leadership,” he said.

Lajim said this when asked to comment on a posting on the ‘Hajiji Likers’ Facebook page that Hajiji, together with a few former Umno Sabah elected representatives, had met with Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the federal capital recently.

The posting also said that Bersatu will be officially launched in the state capital on April 6 and had named Hajiji as chairman of the protem committee. It also claimed that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also the party’s chairman, will be attending the launching ceremony.

Lajim pointed out that anyone can have a meeting with Bersatu leaders, especially Tun Mahathir, adding, “we (Harapan Rakyat) have met with him on several occasions and there is no official decision yet on who will lead Bersatu in Sabah.

“To me, these are just talks,” said Lajim, adding, however, that Harapan Rakyat will abide with Tun Mahathir’s decision should he appoint a former Umno Sabah leader to lead Bersatu in Sabah.

“This is because we (Harapan Rakyat members) are joining Bersatu because we want to be with the government, not because of posts and position. This includes helping the government in coming up with policies that are good for Sabahans,” he said, adding that things are looking up for Sabah as can be seen with the announcement that the status of Sabah and Sarawak will be the focus at the first meeting of the second session of the 14th Parliament which opens on Monday.
