Lightning kills man, injures three others

SHAH ALAM: A Myanmar man was killed and three of his countrymen were injured by lightning at the Setia Badminton Academy football field in Setia Alam here yesterday.

Klang Utara district police chief ACP Nurulhuda Mohd Salleh, who confirmed the incident when contacted, said it occurred at 5.05 pm and identified the deceased as Rohimullah, 19.

One of the injured, identified as Abdul Rahman Abul Hussin, 30, is in coma at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang, he added.

He said the other two injured were identified as Kamaluddin Abu Tahir ,30, and Hussein Ahmad Asod Ali, 20.

The victims were there to watch a football match between Rohingya Klang FC (RKFC) and Super Nova FC.

Organiser and referee of the football match, Zainizam Zambri said the victim who was killed in the incident was believed to be using his handphone when the lightning struck.

He said he decided to stop the game half-an-hour before the lightning due to the bad weather.

“We also told supporters to leave the field and find shelter as we saw lightning coming. When that lightning strike, there was a loud noise and the light was so bright.

“The victim was still on the field with his friends and I saw then being thrown off their feet,” he said when met by reporters at the scene. - Bernama
