KOTA KINABALU: Luka Milunovic’s bright start for Sabah in the Malaysian League won the Serbian attacking midfielder the PFAM-Asiana.my Premier League Player-of-the-Month award for February.

The 26-year-old claimed the most votes with 1,956 or 48.51 per cent of the total votes to beat four candidates for the award.

Johor Darul Ta’zim II (JDT II) striker Mohammed Ghaddar was second with 959 votes (23.78 per cent) followed by UiTM FC’s Adi Said with 599 votes (14.86 per cent), Terengganu FC II’s Ramzi Sufian with 390 votes (9.67 per cent) and Selangor United’s Raslam Khan with 128 votes (3.17 per cent).

Milunovic was signed just before the start of the season and never looked back.

He has started all of the Tambadaus’ opening six games where he has three goals to his credit.

Milunovic said it would not be possible for him to win the award had it not for the support he received from his teammates.

“Everybody helped me with the award,” he said while expressing thanks to all who led to the win.

“I hope also that as a team, we will be successful this season and achieve our target,” he added.

For the record, selection of candidates is conducted by a Special Selection Committee made up of representatives from the Professional Footballers Associaton of Malaysia (PFAM), Asiana. My and journalists.

Fans will then cast their votes for the selected players via the www.pfam.my.

Past winners of the award from Sabah were goalkeeper Robson Rendy Rining and the state former Puerto Rico striker Hector Ramos in February and June respectively last year.
