98.79% of Sabah STPM candidates score full passes

BEAUFORT: The 2018 Sijil Tinggi Persekolah­an Malaysia (STPM) results for Sabah showed 6,705 out of 6,787 candidates obtained full pass which is a slight improvemen­t from 2017.

Sabah Education director Mistirine Radin said the total showed an increase of 0.24 percent to 98.79 percent compared to 98.55 percent in 2017.

She said 61 schools achieved 100 percent pass compared to 59 schools in 2017.

“The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) for Sabah in 2018 was 0.03 percent higher at 2.69 compared to 2.66 in 2017.

“The 2018 STMP results show this is the best achievemen­t in the state even though it is still below the national average CGPA,” she told reporters after announcing the examinatio­n results here yesterday.

Mistirine said the passing rate gap between urban and rural schools was also getting smaller at 0.57 per cent in 2018 compared to 2.15 percent in 2017.

In this regard, she said there were 282 candidates who obtained five full principals or 4.16 percent compared to 217 (3.28 percent) in 2017; four principals (4,558 candidates or 67.16 percent); three principals (1,080 students or 15.91 percent); two principals (501 students or 7.38 percent) and 248 candidates or 4.18 percent have one principal.

“There were 51 candidates in Sabah who scored 4.0 CGPA in 2018 compared to 39 in 2017,” she said. - Bernama
