Car ploughs into three schoolgirl­s in Kota Belud, killing one

KOTA BELUD: A 10-year-old school student was killed while two others were seriously injured yesterday when a car, allegedly driven by a drunk driver, ploughed into them.

The victims, all girls aged seven, 10 and 14, were hit by the Nissan car that went off the road and ended up next to a house at Jalan Kampung Tempasuk 2 about 7am.

The victims were reportedly waiting for their transport to take them to school when the incident happened.

The 54-year-old driver was said to be on his way home and was believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol when the incident happened.

The 10-year-old girl, a student at SK Tempasuk 2, sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two students also sustained severe head injuries and were rushed to the Kota Belud Hospital for emergency treatment.

They were later taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Likas Women and Children Hospital in Kota Kinabalu and were both reported to be in critical condition.

The driver of the Nissan car only sustained light injuries on his forehead and was treated by the EMRS team at the scene.

He has been detained while the case is being investigat­ed under Section 44 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Department was informed of the accident at 6.53am
