Man to stand trial for cheating Amercian of RM451,390

KOTA KINABALU: A man will stand trial on April 23 for cheating an American man of RM451,390 as capital to open a restaurant.

Magistrate Mohamad Aizat Abdul Rahim fixed the date for Fairul Pat Lingam, 44, who denied cheating the 62-year-old foreigner by making him give the said amount via cash transfers to two bank accounts of the accused's wife as capital to start an eatery business at a shopping mall in Penampang.

The alleged offence took place at Kampung Laut Kinarut along Jalan Papar, at 6pm in mid December, 2013.

The accused, who was represented by counsel Azhier Farhan Arisin, was granted bail of RM10,000 with two local sureties during his first arraignment in court.

Prosecuting officer Inspectors Suzie@ Stephanie Kupit and Lim Swee Beng prosecuted.

In a separate case, a ‘wedding planner' from Tuaran claimed trial at the Magistrate's Court here yesterday to cheating a woman of RM10,450.

Mohd Nassir Aziz, 37, who appeared before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, faces a charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and whipping and also liable to a fine, upon conviction.

The unrepresented accused allegedly committed the offence at a restaurant in Inanam at 4.10pm on October 12, 2018.

The court set March 20 for case management and released the accused on bail of RM2,000 with two local sureties.
