Man to stand trial for cheating Amercian of RM451,390

KOTA KINABALU: A man will stand trial on April 23 for cheating an American man of RM451,390 as capital to open a restaurant.

Magistrate Mohamad Aizat Abdul Rahim fixed the date for Fairul Pat Lingam, 44, who denied cheating the 62-year-old foreigner by making him give the said amount via cash transfers to two bank accounts of the accused's wife as capital to start an eatery business at a shopping mall in Penampang.

The alleged offence took place at Kampung Laut Kinarut along Jalan Papar, at 6pm in mid December, 2013.

The accused, who was represente­d by counsel Azhier Farhan Arisin, was granted bail of RM10,000 with two local sureties during his first arraignmen­t in court.

Prosecutin­g officer Inspectors Suzie@ Stephanie Kupit and Lim Swee Beng prosecuted.

In a separate case, a ‘wedding planner' from Tuaran claimed trial at the Magistrate's Court here yesterday to cheating a woman of RM10,450.

Mohd Nassir Aziz, 37, who appeared before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, faces a charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and whipping and also liable to a fine, upon conviction.

The unrepresen­ted accused allegedly committed the offence at a restaurant in Inanam at 4.10pm on October 12, 2018.

The court set March 20 for case management and released the accused on bail of RM2,000 with two local sureties.
