Police operation nets 51 over drugs

LANGKAWI: Police nabbed 51 people, including 16 suspected drug pushers, in a 12-hour operation dubbed ‘Ops Sarang' in several locations in the island since Sunday night.

Kedah NCID chief Supt Helmi Aris said the operation was mounted by almost 100 NCID personnel from Langkawi, Kedah and Bukit Aman who covered various locations in Bukit Malut, Taman Nilam, Kuala Teriang and Ayer Hangat.

“During the operation, we managed to pick up 51 individuals, including three women, for various drug-related offences.

“The operation can be described as successful as we also detained 16 suspected drug pushers,” he told reporters in Bukit Malut, here yesterday. Also present was Langkawi Police chief Supt Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim.

Helmi said they also seized 161gm of heroin, 28.21gm of syabu and three litres of ketum juice from the suspects during the operation.

He said all suspects, aged between 23 and 56, have been remanded to facilitate further investigations.

In Sarawak, the Sarawak Police picked up 41 people, also believed to be drug pushers, in an integrated anti-drug operation in 19 villages in Serian yesterday morning.

Sarawak NCID chief Supt Sahar Abd Latif said in the operation mounted by 101 police officers and staff, a gun, a sword, 52.6gm of syabu, 6.3gm of ganja, totalling RM10,715 were also seized.

“What's sad is that we also arrested a father, his son and his five young nephews aged between 15 and 20,” he said, adding that those arrested would be investigated under various sections of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Firearms Act 1960 and the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958. - Bernama
