SHA going extra mile to develop hockey in Sabah

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Hockey Association (SHA) is set to go the extra mile in efforts to develop the sport in the State.

President of SHA, Dato Sri (Dr) Anil Jeet Singh said they were trying to get the districts to form their own association which will be directly affiliated to the state governing body for hockey.

For that reason, he said SHA is planning to conduct roadshows statewide in order to get their message across effectively.

“Of course this is still in the planning process but once everything is agreed, we will implement the plan.

“The idea is to get as many districts to form their own association and that they will be affiliated to us (SHA). So, we will go on a roadshow and will help any districts to form an association,” said Anil, 34, after chairing SHA first Supreme Council meeting.

He said it was important that with more associations at district level affiliated to SHA, he hoped it would have greater impact in developing the sport while also presenting them with bigger pool of young talents to be identified from.

Having said that, Anil also stressed on the importance of organising more tournaments so as to lift the standard of the game.

For a start, he said there will be the SHA President’s Cup Hockey Championship in Likas from from June 26-30 as well as the Sabah Under-16 Hockey tournament the following month.

“We will also focus on getting the ball rolling to prepare for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) that Johor will host next year,” said Anil who took over SHA helm on December 15 last year.

Meanwhile, Anil, a businessman, said he has delivered his promise of getting a bus for the association.

“It is a 15-seater plus driver. Hopefully this will assist SHA greatly to travel around the state for hockey events,” he said.

In another development, Anil announced during the meeting that Avtar Singh Bal and Pritam Singh A/L Sarthar Singh have been re-appointed as SHA secretary and treasurer respectively.
