SMK Petagas ready by July next year

- By Jenne Lajiun

PUTATAN: One of the two secondary schools being built in the Petagas constituency here will be completed by July next year.

The school concerned, SMK Petagas, will have 36 classrooms that can accommodate around 1,440 students between Form 1 and Form 5.

The cost of the school is RM39 million, said Petagas assemblyman, Datuk Uda Sulai, who is also the Assistant Legal Affairs and Natives Minister when visiting four schools in his constituency yesterday.

He said that the new school would also be equipped with an assembly hall as well as quarters for teachers.

“Since the school will only cater for students within the constituency, a hostel is not included in the plan,” he said.

Yet another school that is being planned is SMK Lok Kawi.

Reporters were made aware that the location where the school will be built is already finalised and that land where it will be built costs RM24 million.

He added that the constituency needed the secondary schools as it only has two operational at the moment. They are SMK Putatan and SMK Tansau.

“The constituency is growing and we’re expecting the population to grow further. Even with the completion of SMK Petagas, we predict that it will still not be enough to cater for all students in the constituency,” he said.

He also said that all of the schools within his constituency were still in good condition, even though some needed to be repaired.

“It can still be tolerated,” he said concerning the condition of the schools.

As for his visit, he said that it was necessary for him, being the representative of the people, to know the status of all implemented projects.

“I am checking on all projects by all ministries that are being carried out in my constituency because the chief minister wants to know if we are aware about them,” he said.
