Over 1,000 may join Kadamaian Race

-

KOTA KINABALU: Over 1,000 participants are expected to compete at the Kadamaian Adventure Race (KAR) 2019 at Tamu Taginambur, Kota Belud on August 24.

Organising secretary Esther Toihin said the KAR would contest the 10km, 20km and 60km races for men and women where the total prize money of RM23,820 will be up for grabs.

“The KAR will be introducing the 10km category this year especially for those wish to be part of the event but find it hard to race the longer distance categories.

“So it (10km) is for those who have just started out in trail running,” she said in a statement to the press yesterday.

The 10km category will see runners race pass Taginambur, Narinang and Purak Ogis while an additional challenge awaits participants in the 20km event at Bukit Bogung, which is close to Narinang and Purak Ogis.

“As for the 60km for elite runners, the race route will pass through 11 ecotourism areas at several villages in Kadamaian,” she added.

Esther said this after a courtesy call to Rural Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedict, who is also assemblyman for Kadamaian.

Among the objectives of KAR was to promote Kota Belud, in particular Kadamaian, as a centre for extreme sports, Marathon, fun run or trail running.

“It is also to encourage a healthy life especially among the youth as well as to promote tourism spots in Kadamaian,” she said.

Esther went on to express her confidence that the KAR would attract over 1,000 runners based on last year’s response as well as the growing interest among the community in such event.

“The organisers too are confident that by using racematix system in registration and timing chip, it will further boost the profile of the event, thus attracting more runners,” she said of the KAR themed ‘Finisher Never Give Up’ that also received entries from Brunei, Indonesia and France in the past.

Meanwhile, Ewon has given his assurance by giving full support to the KAR which he said would undoubtedly promote and bring benefits to Kadamaian in many ways.

For the record, Ewon has contributed RM20,000 for the staging of the KAR 2019.
