KOTA KINABALU: Tunas Asas Bolasepak (TABS) SAFA Bandaraya received a visit from Program Pembangunan Bolasepak Projek Ikan Pusu (PIP) Brunei Darussalam.

The visitors arrived on Friday to play a series of friendly matches with TABS. The matches which involved teams of various age groups were played at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in Likas. The matches began on Friday and are scheduled to conclude today.

The PIP delegation, which comprised 69 members led by Rosmawati Mohd Pengiran Salleh, was welcomed by TABS deputy president Lokman Sunggim. Also present were TABS vice president Matasan Ahmad and secretary, Juraidah Abdul Rahim.

Lokman said it was the first time the Brunei delegation came to play friendly matches in Sabah.

He hoped that both sides benefitted equally from playing the matches.

Lokman said that TABS benefitted greatly from the threeday programme as they got to gain tips and knowledge shared by PIP who have more than 19 years of grassroots development in football.

“The shared experience would help us to enhance the quality of our grassroots programmes for better development of our players,” he said.

Towards this end, Lokman thanked the SAFA management for their cooperation, which he said was influential to the programme’s success.

Meanwhile, PIP head coach, Omar Jamil said their four-day stay in Sabah helped give valuable experience to their players as they were able to gain some outside exposure.

PIP is the main development programme for football in Brunei and had produced several talented players that eventually went on to join the national team.
