MP wants Sabahans appointed to Petronas BOD

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Putatan MP Awang Hussaini Sahari has expressed concern over Sabah's lack of role in the Petronas board of directors.

“Since 1974, which was the formation of Petronas until 2016, only one person from Sabah was ever appointed to be a representative from Sabah in the Petronas director's board,” he pointed out at the August House.

Awang Hussaini reminded that Sabah is a producer of oil and gas in Malaysia and that this point was raised by Mazri Mohd Ali, Petronas Carigali head of Sabah on March 15, 2019.

“The people of Sabah want the participation of Sabahans at every Petronas company operating in Sabah, particularly the level of the Petronas supreme policy makers,” he said.

At the same time, Awang Hussaini also urged that Sazma Aviation Sdn Bhd, a joint venture company set by Sabah Air and UZMA Teras in 2012, be given a larger market share in off shore operations in Sabah waters.

He said that presently, the market share given to Sazma Aviation Sdn Bhd is merely 20 percent through helicopter services with Petronas Carigali.

The balance of 40 percent is managed by Syarikat Hevilift (M) Sdn Bhd which operates for Murphy Oil Corporation in Labuan and the remaining 40 percent is by Syarikat Weststar Aviation which operates at the Kebambangan Petroleum Operating company as well as for Shell, he said.

He added that based on the situation, it was clear that there are imbalances in the sharing of market which should emphasise more on local companies, and in this case, Sazma Aviation Sdn Bhd.
