Elected reps’ duty to serve people, not to complain – Yee

-

KOTA KINABALU: It is the duty and responsibility of an elected representative to serve and help the people diligently, as this was the reason people have voted for them, said Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) deputy president Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai.

Yee said he was disappointed to see an elected representative such as Jenifer Lasimbang who is also the Education and Innovation Assistant Minister to complain about her job and responsibilities on social media.

“For an elected representative to complain on social media that she is getting sick and tired of people, especially parents seeking her help for their unemployed children, this is unbecoming and an unacceptable behavior of a person who had taken an oath to serve and help the rakyat,” he added.

“I'm sure her voters will feel insulted by her statement and disappointed with her attitude towards her responsibilities, and if she is unwilling or unable to carry her duties effectively, there are others who are ready and willing to serve the rakyat sincerely,'' Yee said previously when he was an elected representative, he served the rakyat willingly without complaining, as this is what is expected of from an elected representative.

He also revealed to reporters that previously when he served as the Deputy Chief Minister and as Minister of Resource Development and Information Technology, he had set up Sabah Job Centre as a platform to help unemployed graduates as well as providing free skills trainings that covered ICT and Language courses to assist the unemployed and also to enhance the skills of those employed.

However, Yee said he is disappointed to see that Jenifer has failed to use the resources available at her ministry to assist the unemployed graduates, and instead she chose to insult those who seek her help on social media.

Yee also reminded all elected representatives to focus on serving the people and to stop politicking.

Jenifer has apologized for the stir and misunderstanding caused by her post in her Facebook account concerning unemployed graduates.

She said that her intention was to draw attention to the issue of unemployment amongst graduates.

The Moyog assemblywoman posted on March 20, “Getting sick and tired of getting phone calls; WhatsApp and emails from PARENTS asking me to look for a job for their children – unemployed GRADUATES”.
