-

SANDAKAN: The Perodua Aruz TransBorneo convoy yesterday continued its journey into Sandakan for its promotional drive and to meet the local community through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

Perodua president and chief executive, Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said yesterday was the fifth day of travel for the convoy including six Aruz SUVs since they started their journey from Kuching, Sarawak on March 16.

"While on the promotion drive, we also carry out the CSR programme to assist the needy. As today we are in Sandakan, we held a CSR programme at the Al Yakin Orphanage here.

"During that programme, we handed out foodstuff and RM5,000 in cash for the benefit of 20 residents of the orphanage," he said in a statement issued to the media during the event.

Zainal Abidin said such CSR activities had been carried out by the automobile company since 10 years ago.

On the convoy, he said the travel was for 1,500 kilometres from Kuching to Tawau in Sabah and would end this Friday.

Zainal Abidin said the convoy had stopped at a number of major towns like Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Kota Kinabalu and Ranau to meet the local communities and authorities to introduce Aruz and offer the experience of driving the vehicle, Perodua's new SUV (sports utility vehicle).

“Aruz is an energy-efficient vehicle acknowledged by the government for the best fuel consumption in its class.

“This makes Aruz very suitable for East Malaysia as the model is value for money at RM74,900 for the X variant and RM79,900 for the AV variant," he added. - Bernama
