GPS the best platform to lead Sarawak – Gerawat

-

MARUDI: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) roadshow for Zone 14 that was launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is the chairman of GPS, on Wednesday, attracted some 6,000 people.

Zone 14 covers Telang Usan, Mulu and Marudi state constituencies in the Baram parliamentary constituency.

In his speech as the chairman of GPS Zone 14, Mulu assemblyman Dato Gerawat Gala informed that GPS was formed after component parties of the then Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) decided to form a Sarawak-based coalition following the defeat of the federal BN at the May 9 general election last year.

That defeat, he said, led to the formation of a new federal government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH), which won the election.

However, the Sarawak government still remained under GPS as it had won convincingly in the 2016 state election, he pointed out.

Being not tied to any other coalition or party, he said GPS is the right platform for Sarawak to safeguard its rights and reclaim those that had been eroded throughout the years from the federal government, citing oil and gas, taxes and immigration as among the rights that the state wants to be returned.

“The change of the federal government at the 14th general election is the best chance to correct and study again the strategy and the destination of Sarawak politics,” the Deputy Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly said.

He also emphasised that GPS has experienced and capable leaders who can lead Sarawak to a better future as they know the local sentiments and needs.
