Ellen wants to officiate Booker and Dawson’s White House wedding — if it happens

- By Emily Heil

FOLLOW us through the maze of “ifs” here: IF Senator Cory Booker gets elected president and IF his relationship with actress Rosario Dawson gets to the “I do” stage, Ellen DeGeneres might conduct the ceremony ... but that’s only IF Dawson is OK with that, we assume.

This verrry tentative plan came together when the New Jersey Democrat and presidential hopeful sat for an interview on DeGeneres’ show that’s set to air on Wednesday afternoon, per advance clips of the episode. Obviously, she asked him about his budding romance. And, obviously, the smitten pol did the requisite gushing about the lady we now know is in his life (thanks, TMZ!), noting that it’s not easy for her to be in the spotlight shining on his campaign.

“As our relationship grows it’s difficult, but she is such a deeply soulful person,” Booker said. “She really has this nurturing spirit that has made me more courageous not just in the love that I project and want to see in our country, but I think in our own personal relationships to love more fearlessly. I’m very, very blessed to be with somebody that makes me a better person.”

And that was when the talkshow host hatched her plan, suggesting that if the couple does decide to get married, they should wait until he’s in the White House to tie the knot in high-profile style. It would, she said, be like “our royal wedding.” Booker seemed to get on board pretty quickly with her plan. “Would you help preside over the wedding?” he asked, presumably without having consulted his hypothetically someday bride-tobe. And she said yes! (DeGeneres, that is — not Dawson.)

But what’s one job the comedian won’t do for Booker? Be his No. 2. She joked earlier on the show after he complimented her that she wouldn’t be his veep. Later, when she pressed Booker on his promise to include a woman on his presidential ticket in the vice-presidential slot, he made sure she couldn’t be enticed to take the job.

“Yes, there will be gender diversity on the ticket,” he responded. “And you are saying you’re not interested whatsoever?”

DeGeneres politely declined: “I’m saying I’m busy.” — WPBloomberg
