Marc Jacobs, Abloh and Roitfeld lead 2019 CFDA Awards noms
MARC Jacobs, Virgil Abloh and Carine Roitfeld are some of the fashion superstars up for nomination for the 2019 CFDA Awards.
The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) took to Instagram to announce the nominees and honorees for the upcoming edition of its prestigious annual awards ceremony, revealing the big names that go head to head this year.
Off White designer Virgil Abloh has been nominated for “Menswear Designer of the Year,” alongside Kerby JeanRaymond for Pyer Moss, Rick Owens, Thom Browne for Thom Browne New York and Mike Amiri for Amiri. “Womenswear Designer of the Year” nominees include Brandon Maxwell, Marc Jacobs, Kate Mulleavy and Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte, Rosie Assoulin, and Sander Lak for Sies Marjan.
Abloh is also in the running for “Accessory Designer of the Year” thanks to his work at Off-White, as are Jennifer Fisher, Tabitha Simmons, Telfar Clemens for Telfar, and Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen for The Row. Meanwhile, Emily Adams Bode for Bode, Beth Bugdaycay for Foundrae, Heron Preston, Catherine Holstein for Khaite, and Sarah Staudinger and George Augusto for Staud are all jostling for the title of “Emerging Designer of the Year”.
As always, the CFDA has also named several industry figures as the honorees of specific accolades. This year will see “The Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti International Award” given to the designer Sarah Burton for her work at Alexander McQueen, while the “Founder’s Award in honour of Eleanor Lambert” is being awarded to the imitable stylist and editor Carine Roitfeld. Fashion editor and writer Lynn Yaeger will receive the “Media Award in honour of Eugenia Sheppard” and designer Eileen Fisher is being recognised for her commitment to sustainability via the “Positive Change Award”.
The CFDA Awards are designed to celebrate the best of the US fashion industry, with last year’s big-name winners including Raf Simons, Kim Kardashian and Donatella Versace. The 2019 winners will be revealed on June 3 during a ceremony held at the Brooklyn Museum. — Relaxnews
